I have painted with digital oils for a while - even thought I have used mostly soft airbrush.
I can only agree to what you say about digital oils and acrylics: I too find this media very difficult to “control”. It takes for me 2 o 3 times the efforts and time I take on an airbrush painting. For me, the following aspects are most difficult:
- Blending it properly with underlaying color
- Controling opacity
- making it looking smooth in the edges (when necessary) - I cheat using a soft eraser sometimes, to help smooth the edges of a stroke.
I am glad you liked the Study of Teal’c - it is close to what I would have done in traditional media - but light years away when it comes to how I apply the technique ^.^
I encourage you to play with this wet media whenever you have time on spare, but focus on those brushes which of course, give back the effort you put on them :)
